Areas of The 606 closed during construction

Dear Neighbor,

Due to the construction work happening to restore the Exelon Observatory, there will be periods over the next few weeks when the Ridgeway entrance to the Bloomingdale Trail will not be accessible. During those times please expect to be directed to enter and exit the trail from the Lawndale entrance. Please consider these changes while planning your trip to The 606.

Since 2015, the Exelon Observatory’s spiraling path has served as an iconic marker along The 606. Located at the west end of The 606 at Ridgeway Avenue, it is also site of our popular stargazing series, For the Love of Stars; instilling a love of astronomy, awe and wonder in kids of all ages.

We love the Exelon Observatory as much as you do, which is why we’re working on a solution for the landscaping that is both functional and beautiful. During construction, the Exelon Observatory will be closed through the summer and will reopen this fall, however fencing to protect the landscaping will remain in place until spring 2018.

For the Love of Stars, hosted by The Trust for Public Land and Chicago Park District and featuring The Chicago Astronomer—will continue through the summer and fall. Find us at Julia de Burgos Park (between Albany and Whipple) at dusk on the second Friday of each month. Telescopes will be provided.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support.
