Join us at the Exelon Observatory on the Bloomingdale Trail, 1800 N. Ridgeway Ave, for a celestial viewing with our resident astronomer, Joe Guzman.

The winter constellations are leaving Chicago skies, making way for spring and warmer star gazing.

Orion the Hunter displays his belt of three stars and both a red giant at his shoulder and a super intense star, Rigel at his knee…with an even brighter star, Sirius, his faithful dog, following his master.

The 53% illuminated Moon joins our night sky, visiting the Constellation of Gemini the Twins this evening, inviting telescopic views of long mountain shadows and deep craters along the “Terminator” – the line between the ever changing light and dark phases of the lunar surface.

High overhead is the constellation Auriga, the Charioteer and it’s bright star Capella at 42 Light Years away.  Leo the Lion, identified by its backward “Question mark” outline of stars, one of which is Regulus, which is the heart of the beast and another red giant star.  Crimson red Mars, hanging low in the west and will soon become a “Morning star”.

In case of course inclement weather, event will take place on Friday, April 19.
