Supporting The 606
Parks and trails are more than just places on a map—they transform and connect us. And they give children a place to run, to spin until dizzy, to use their outside voices. Yet far too few of our urban places have adequate park space. Enough ground space is simply not available in a dense urban area to create enough parks for children and grownups alike.
The 606 is Chicago’s most innovative new public space, and is connecting commuters and communities alike. But there’s more still to come. This effort requires dedicated volunteers, advocates, thought-leaders and funders—big and small—to make it happen. So while we are building on a great tradition of park investment in Chicago, we need your support to make The 606 the inviting, artful, and lush corridor we all want it to be.
Chicago’s dedicated philanthropic community has stepped up in support of The 606. Gifts from $1 to $5,000,000—and everywhere in between—have come in from around the city and country in support of this ambitious project. With leadership from the all-volunteer Leadership Council, The Trust for Public Land manages the private fundraising effort for The 606 partnership. More than half the funding needed for The 606 is already in place, including what we need to open the trail end to end. But we are continuing the campaign to realize the full vision for this project: a community connector, an outdoor classroom, an international icon, and a living work of art – and it can only be done with your support.
This is not a city that settles for status quo—Chicagoans get creative. Supporters of The 606 have hosted pub crawls, donated a portion of shop sales, held fundraisers, pledged gifts, written letters of support to area foundations, made an annual donation at year’s end, donated food and drink, art and photographs, given input and guidance, and just about everything else to make The 606 a reality.
Join a group of people that, like you, care about parks, green commuting, and innovative ways a city can enhance its neighborhoods. Help The Trust for Public Land achieve the campaign goals for The 606:
